LINCOLN
MUSIC & DRAMA FESTIVAL
(Affiliated to the British & International Federation of Music Festivals)
President: Ursula Lidbetter. MBE Chairman: Paul Hill
Dear Performer,
Last year's Festival again received a large number of entries and we are very grateful to most participants for filling in their entry forms correctly. Only a few were illegible or missing certain vital facts. Following up missing details takes a considerable amount of time that is not available when entries are being processed so please check your forms thoroughly. If you could bear in mind the following suggestions, it would be most helpful:
*
- Entries are welcome days, or even weeks, before the closing date. It doesn't
have to be the last minute!
*
- If you are posting, especially with a 2nd class stamp, please make sure you
have a few days in hand.
*
- Please do not use recorded delivery. The entries secretary cannot guarantee
being at home when the post is delivered and
several
journeys to the sorting office waste valuable time.
*
- Illegible, incomplete or late entries may be rejected.
*
- 'Own choice' items must be listed and very carefully timed (rule 7). Changing
'own choice' items after the closing date is discouraged.
*
- In the event of a withdrawal after the closing date, entry fees will not be
refunded, except in exceptional circumstances.
In previous festivals performers have occasionally used commercially produced recordings for backing purposes. Performers are advised that the Performing Rights Society will levy a fee for any recording used in this way and the Festival will be obliged to pass this charge on to the performer. Please state on the entry form whether recording equipment will be used, as the Festival must adhere to safety rules regarding the use of electrical equipment. In this case, contact will be made when the entry is received.
An official accompanist is always available, free of charge for performance, at the festival. If you have requested their help, you will be notified of their name and telephone number on your performer's card. Please make contact with them, even if you do not want to arrange any rehearsal time as they may need to know something about your performance before the day. Similarly let them know in good time if you do not need them. Informing an accompanist just before a class that he or she is not needed is unacceptable..
Please be aware of the rules 7 & 8 regarding photocopying. It is illegal to perform or accompany using an unofficial photocopy. An original copy of the music must be available in the room during the class otherwise performers may be asked to withdraw.
In Speech and Drama Classes with "own choice", please ensure that any material is appropriate and not likely to cause offence to our audience of mixed ages.
Finally, if performers are unable to attend the festival, it is important to let the organisers know. If a last minute difficulty should occur there will be a special number on the performers' card that can only be answered at the festival. If a performer is withdrawing from a class prior to the event they should use the usual enquiry telephone numbers.
Thank you for your co-operation.
